Climate change is one of the most critical global challenges of our times. Recent events have emphatically demonstrated our growing vulnerability to climate change. Climate change impacts range from affecting agriculture, further endangering food security, to sea-level rise and the accelerated erosion of coastal zones increasing the intensity of natural disasters, species extinction, and spread of vector-borne diseases. Climate Change is recognized today as the greatest environmental challenge, threatening to affect all spheres of our lives and will leave behind severe catastrophic effects if not dealt with the right action.

While climate change impacts or is impacted by nearly all of the 17 SDGs (hunger, poverty, good health and more), SDGs 7, 12, 13, 14, and 15 have specific indicators calling for action to cut emissions, reduce pollution of our air, land, and waters, and adopt clean and innovative clean energy technologies.

As government officials, development experts, the private sector and civil society organizations meet at the United Nations for the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, we're defining the 5 SDGs and targets to tackle climate change and ensure clean energy for all.

SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy🦋

Investing in solar, wind and thermal power, improving energy productivity, and ensuring energy for all is vital if we are to achieve SDG 7 by 2030. Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean and more efficient energy in all countries will encourage growth and help the environment.

SDG 12 Responsible consumption and production🦋

Achieving  economic growth and sustainable development requires that we urgently reduce our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume goods and resources. This can help with food security, and shift us towards a more resource efficient economy

SDG 13 Climate Action🦋

Climate action means stepped-up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-induced impacts, including: climate-related hazards in all countries; integrating climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning; and improving education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity with respect to climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

Goal 14 Life Below Water🦋

The world's oceans – their temperature, chemistry, currents and life – drive global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. ... The SDGs aim to sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems from pollution, as well as address the impacts of ocean acidification.

SDG 15 Life on Land🦋

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

The SDGs recognise the extent to which human wellbeing is dependent on environmental and climate protection. So, it is appropriate to say that  integrating development with environmental protection is the need of the hour. That is why we should join hands together to strengthen SDGs: 7, 12, 13, 14, 15 and protect our environment.

We must consider the fact that youth definitely could play a crucial role in combating climate change. The young generation inhabits the Earth and inherits the responsibility to protect the planet, in fighting the complex scientific problems and social quandaries presented by climate change. Youth education represents one of the most effective tools to combat the destructive potential of climate change and cultivate an international understanding among members of the next generation since it is a long-term process that will impact an infinite number of future generations.

Dr. Lakshay Mihani while sharing his thoughts on environmental protection said, "As we all know the earth is the only planet having life in this universe so we should save the mother earth so that our future generations can live in a safe environment. As because of this lockdown for COVID-19 the earth is healing from all the damage we have done to it. I personally feel that we should keep this healing process going on by keeping our environment clean and healthy and plant trees  as much as we can and appreciate what this earth have given to us."

Priyanka De working as a business development manager said, "Environmental pollution is one of the key problems faced in our modern world. Though there have been massive technological advancement in these recent days, it has also invited negative effects to the environment. By doing a simple thing like planting a tree, we shall be making the world a better place and for sure we shall always live to be proud of our achievement."

"Saving the environment is not just an issue anymore. It is a survival truth. Individuals, organisations and governments need to come together and join hands to protect what is left of our planet so that the future is not wiped out before it’s time for a curtain call", she added.

Dr. Ayush Bhagwati said, "The need is to shift the way people view the Earth, our beautiful blue planet. We Depend on Plastic. Now We're Drowning in It. We create mountains of trash and plastic each day and this is what we must change. Trash can travel throughout the world's rivers and oceans, accumulating on beaches and within gyres. This debris harms physical habitats, transports chemical pollutants, threatens aquatic life, and interferes with human uses of river, marine and coastal environments. It is not enough that technology or just recycling the plastic bottles will save us. It is much deeper and serious issue to think about and act."

Amisha Singh, a medical student said courageously, "I don't want to protect the environment, I want to create a world where the environment doesn't need protecting."

Medical student Biswajit Das said, "A healthy environment is very important for the survival of human beings on Earth. It directly affects the physical and mental state of a person. Ruining this beautiful environment and ecosystem balance will be disastrous for the entire human race. The responsibility of protecting our environment is upon us. Steps we take today towards a clean and protected environment will ensure their health and prosperity of the upcoming generation."

Budding Fashion Designer Ayushi Gautam said, "Bicycle riding uses minimal fossil fuels and is a pollution-free mode of transport. Bikes reduce the need to build, service and dispose of cars. Bicycle riding conserves roadway and residential space, thereby providing opportunities for less concrete and more plant life in urban areas."

No one can remain untouched by this global challenge. We are bound to face the severe consequences of climate change unless and until we take strict measures to curb global warming. We need to bring about a change to prevent such disastrous consequences from taking place. Youth should therefore be given a chance to take an active part in the decision- making of local, national and global levels. They can actively support initiatives that will lead to the passage of far-reaching legislation. A demarcated role should be given to the youth to prevent the impact of climate change. It is also essential to conduct major studies among youth regarding awareness about climate change as well as role of youth in combating climate change. This issue is of immense importance for every global citizen. Hence it requires an initiative against it globally.
